Thirty-seven kennels in the Phoenix area publish a nightly boarding rate. The lowest is $30, the largest suite is $165, and the typical starting price for one dog, one night, is $51. Nearly all of them want rabies and DHPP before check-in and most add Bordetella. Here are three kennels in Tempe, Scottsdale and Paradise Valley with their prices, rules and hours, and a table near each for the meal after drop-off.

3Vaccines most kennels ask for: rabies, DHPP and Bordetella. A few add canine influenza or leptospirosis.

We run Dog Boarding Hours, a directory of dog boarding kennels with the nightly price, the vaccines each one asks for and the hours, and we are a guest here. Top of Phoenix asked what boarding costs around town and where to eat once the dog is checked in.

What a night costs here

The nightly rate buys a room and the basics. Three things move it: the room (a standard run, a private suite or a cage-free group stay), the size of the dog, and the dates. Holiday weeks carry a surcharge at most kennels, and a second dog from the same home is usually cheaper than the first. Daycare, grooming, training and transport are separate charges. Confirm whether a night means a calendar night or 24 hours, and what time check-out falls, because those two rules set what a three-night stay costs. Summer matters here too: ask how the yards and runs are cooled.

Johnny’s Doghouse, Tempe

Private suites and runs at 1290 N Scottsdale Rd, from $45 to $65 a night by the dog’s weight. Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella are required. Open daily 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., so plan drop-off and pick-up inside those hours. Cats are boarded too.

Lori’s Grooming, Boarding and Daycare, North Scottsdale

Cage-free boarding at 14202 N Scottsdale Rd, $55 a night for one dog with daycare included; two dogs from the same home are $105 a night together. Staff are on site around the clock. Rabies and DHPP are required. Open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9 to 5 and Sunday 11 to 5, with set drop-off and pick-up windows.

Applewood Pet Resort, Paradise Valley

Private rooms and suites on two acres at 6909 E Lincoln Dr, from $60 a night for a small room up to $165 for the Presidential Suite; additional dogs sharing a room are $38. Staff are on site 24 hours a day. Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella are required. Open Monday to Saturday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What to have ready

All three want current rabies and DHPP records and two also want Bordetella. Send the certificates ahead by email or upload so check-in is a hand-off rather than a wait at the counter. Bring food for the whole stay plus one day, in portion bags, and any medication with written dosing times. A trial daycare day before the first overnight stay is standard at the cage-free kennels and worth doing at the others.
