Best Steak in Phoenix (2026)

The Valley's steakhouse culture runs deeper than the resort-strip reputation suggests. From the Mastro family's Biltmore anchors to a reopened Midtown landmark now in its second chapter, the best beef in Greater Phoenix is spread across several municipalities and price points, dry-aged ribeyes in Scottsdale, wood-fired prime cuts in Old Town, and a few surprises that earn their place on any honest list. The Insider Score reflects the review record, and no restaurant pays to be listed.

1 Original Breakfast House Yelp

Original Breakfast House

Brunch · North Phoenix · $$
8.3

The chicken fried steak is the steakhouse detour worth making at this Phoenix breakfast counter. Freshly squeezed orange juice arrives tableside, the kitchen runs a genuinely from-scratch program, and the birria chilaquiles round out a menu that goes well beyond eggs. Walk-in waits are unpredictable, but the room moves at a good pace when it does fill. A neighborhood-first operation that keeps its prices firmly in the everyday register.

Phoenix Breakfast House That Squeezes Its Own Orange Juice

Fluffy Buttermilk Pancakes

The buttermilk pancakes are the anchor of the menu, a straightforward measure of what the kitchen does well at its most classic.

Eggs Benedict

The Eggs Benedict represents the full-service end of the breakfast program, a reliable indicator of the room's consistency across the morning.

Chicken Fried Steak

The chicken fried steak is the hearty end of the menu, the order for anyone who wants breakfast leaning toward a full Southern-style plate.

Original Breakfast House operates on the straightforward premise that morning cooking done right needs no reinvention: fresh-squeezed orange juice pressed in plain sight, buttermilk pancakes built for the kind of stack that earns a table's loyalty, and eggs Benedict executed with the care that a weekend-only crowd expects. The chicken fried steak rounds out a menu that reads as a deliberate survey of American breakfast at its most honest, without the brunch-concept framing that inflates prices and dilutes focus across much of the Valley's morning dining scene.

Phoenix has no shortage of weekend breakfast rooms, but this one runs on personal attention. The owner and staff operate with the kind of familiarity that registers immediately, the sort of front-of-the-house character that keeps regulars returning on a schedule. The room draws families specifically, and the pacing reflects that: this is not a fast-turn counter-service operation pushing covers through on a timer, but a sit-down room where the morning unfolds at a deliberate rate.

Waits can build on peak weekends, which is the honest signal of a room that has found its audience. The birria chilaquiles represent an excursion into Mexican morning cooking, though the execution has read as inconsistent, landing bland for some. The kitchen is at its most reliable on the core American program: the pancakes, the Benedict, the chicken fried steak. For a moderately priced family breakfast in Phoenix, the from-scratch details, particularly the orange juice, set the room apart from the grid of diner alternatives along the Valley's northern corridors. This is not resort-patio brunch; it is a neighborhood breakfast house doing the fundamentals with intention.

Insider tip

The freshly squeezed orange juice is pressed to order and worth adding to any plate combination. Waits are common on weekend mornings, so arriving early or off-peak hours on a weekday gives the room at its most manageable.

2 Steak 44 Yelp

Steak 44

Steakhouses · Arcadia · $$$$ · № 6 on the List
7.8

Steak 44 is the Biltmore-area room that the Mastro family built after selling their original brand, and it shows: the dry-aged ribeye is the signature, the truffle mac and cheese has its own following, and the lobster tail rounds out an expense-account menu that delivers on both the plate and the floor. Service runs polished without tipping into stiff. The room handles tables of two and twenty with equal consistency, which is harder than it looks.

Biltmore Steakhouse That Holds Its Standard

Dry-Aged Ribeye

The dry-aged ribeye is the room's central argument, a Biltmore-area steakhouse cut that anchors a decade of repeat business.

Lobster Tail

Lobster tail reads as the seafood counterpoint to the beef program, the choice when the table wants a split between land and sea.

Truffle Mac and Cheese

Truffle mac arrives as the side order that earns its own discussion, rich enough to hold its own against the main course.

Steak 44 sits in the Biltmore corridor and has operated as one of the Valley's reliable expense-account and special-occasion rooms for over a decade. The Mastro brothers, who built Mastro's before selling it and later launched this house, bring the same high-covers, full-service steakhouse model: white tablecloth polish, a room that reads energetic without tipping into loud, and a kitchen built around dry-aged beef. The dry-aged ribeye is the anchor, and the room's long-term regulars order it that way, returning year after year to the same standard. That consistency across a decade of patronage is the clearest signal the kitchen is running a disciplined program, not coasting on occasion-dining margins.

The lobster tail rounds out the surf-and-turf lane that defines this tier of steakhouse, and the truffle mac and cheese has settled into the role of the non-negotiable side, the kind of dish that migrates from the menu to the standing order of anyone who's been twice. The service is polished and knowledgeable, meaning the floor knows the menu cold and can steer a table through the wine list and cuts without the hesitation that shows up in rooms relying on new staff.

For a metro where the best steakhouses are concentrated in the Scottsdale and Biltmore arc, Steak 44 holds its ground on the Phoenix side of that line. The price point is high-end and unselfconscious about it: this is occasion dining and business entertainment priced accordingly, not a neighborhood chophouse. The room scales cleanly from a table for two to a large private party, which is part of why it sustains a corporate-entertainment clientele alongside anniversary-night traffic. In the Valley's steakhouse tier, Steak 44 earns its seat at the top end by staying consistent across the years, not by chasing trends.

Insider tip

The truffle mac and cheese is a standing order for regulars, not an afterthought side; treat it as required. Tables for large parties are handled with the same white-tablecloth standard as a two-top, so it holds up as a group business dinner without service dropping off.

3 Ocean 44 Yelp

Ocean 44

Seafood · Scottsdale · $$$$ · № 5 on the List
8.1

The Mastro family's Scottsdale seafood sibling keeps a dry-aged ribeye and surf-and-turf combination on the menu alongside Chilean sea bass and Maine lobster tail, making it a legitimate entry in a steak guide. The roasted Spanish octopus is a standout opener. Quieter corner tables in the smaller dining room give the room a date-night register that holds up for anniversaries and celebrations without the noise of the main floor.

Scottsdale's Seafood Room for Serious Occasions

Chilean Sea Bass

The sea bass anchors the menu as the kitchen's signature fish, the order for anyone who came specifically for Ocean 44's seafood program.

Dry-Aged Ribeye

The dry-aged ribeye is the steakhouse side of a surf-and-turf room, a substantial cut that earns its place on a seafood-forward menu.

Maine Lobster Tail

The lobster tail is the straightforward luxury order here, the choice for special-occasion tables that want the room's classic coastal centerpiece.

Ocean 44 operates as Scottsdale's premier seafood-forward special-occasion room, sitting in the same ownership family as Steak 44 and carrying the same high-stakes approach to the table. The room divides into sections, with a smaller dining area offering a quieter register that actually allows conversation, a detail that matters at these prices and on the nights people bring it here: birthdays, engagements, anniversaries.

The Chilean sea bass is the anchor of the menu and the dish that earns the room its standing. Properly executed sea bass at this level requires a kitchen that respects fat content and timing, and reports here consistently land on the side of precision rather than disappointment. The Maine lobster tail holds alongside it as the kind of order that sets the evening's tone. For tables that want to bridge the ocean and the pasture, the dry-aged ribeye rounds out a surf-and-turf that gets called out specifically by name, paired here with truffle fries that appear as a recurring touchstone across the table.

The roasted Spanish octopus signals a kitchen reaching past the expected steakhouse-adjacent seafood list, into territory that requires more careful sourcing and technique than a standard Scottsdale room bothers with. That range is the argument for Ocean 44 over the alternatives on this strip.

Pricing is unambiguously high-end, consistent with a Mastro-family operation in Old Town Scottsdale during peak snowbird season, when reservations tighten and the room runs at full volume. The kitchen's consistency across repeat visits is what makes it a standing answer for the question Scottsdale diners come back to on landmark evenings. Arizona's first-ever Michelin Guide arrives in August 2026; rooms like this are exactly what the selection committee will be assessing.

Request the smaller dining room when booking if the occasion calls for actual conversation. The surf-and-turf with truffle fries is the move for tables that want to cover both the sea bass program and the dry-aged beef in a single order.

4 Arrowhead Grill Yelp

Arrowhead Grill

Seafood · Glendale · $$$ · № 20 on the List
7.1

Arrowhead Grill is the West Valley's answer to a white-tablecloth steakhouse, and it does the grilled ribeye and surf-and-turf combination at a price point a full tier below the Scottsdale flagships. The pan-seared salmon draws its own loyal contingent. Service reads as attentive and communicative, particularly on nights when the kitchen is running behind. For Glendale residents who do not want to cross the 101 for a special-occasion dinner, this room earns the trip.

Glendale's Special-Occasion Steakhouse Earns Its Reputation

Grilled Ribeye Steak

The ribeye anchors the land side of the menu, a straightforward steakhouse cut that draws sports-weekend visitors and regulars to Arrowhead alike.

Pan-Seared Salmon

Salmon is the room's reliable seafood center, paired with vegetables and executed with the precision the kitchen applies to its core menu.

Surf and Turf Combo

The surf and turf puts the two sides of Arrowhead Grill's identity on one plate, the clearest expression of what the room is built around.

Arrowhead Grill sits in Glendale as the West Valley's answer to a proper upscale dinner house, the kind of room that draws both locals and out-of-towners arriving for events at State Farm Stadium. The kitchen runs a menu built around the grill: the ribeye is the anchor, a cut that draws repeat visitors and sets the room's tone as a steakhouse with genuine range. Pan-seared salmon rounds out the surf side of the menu and arrives with the broccoli cooked with equal care, a small but telling sign of kitchen attention. The surf and turf combo consolidates both strengths into a single plate, which is where the kitchen's confidence shows most clearly.

This is not a room that leans on novelty; it earns its standing through consistent execution on the things it has chosen to do. Service runs attentive and communicative, including when the kitchen falls behind, which reflects well on front-of-house professionalism. The room reads as a genuine occasion destination for the western metro, not a resort-corridor showpiece. For Glendale and the broader West Valley, where upscale independent dining rooms are thin, Arrowhead fills a real gap.

The price point is upscale without being inaccessible, and the room works for date nights and celebratory dinners with equal ease. It draws the kind of crowd that seeks out a recommendation before making the drive, and the room tends to reward that research. For visitors coming in from outside the Valley, particularly around stadium events, it has become a reliable first stop, which is a harder reputation to build than it sounds.

The surf and turf combo is the clearest expression of what the kitchen does well. The salmon with broccoli is worth ordering on its own and arrives with the same care as the steakhouse centerpieces.

5 Toca Madera Scottsdale Yelp

Toca Madera Scottsdale

Toca Madera earns its place here on the strength of the Wagyu short rib, which arrives wood-fired and lands squarely in steakhouse territory despite the Mexican-leaning menu. The yellowtail sashimi and wood-fired octopus set up a meal that reads as Old Town Scottsdale at its most polished. The room is loud and the drinks are strong, so bring appetite and patience. 6 Dominick's Steakhouse Yelp

Dominick's Steakhouse

Steakhouses · Scottsdale · $$$$ · № 14 on the List
7.4

Dominick's is the Scottsdale room where the Mastro family's fine-dining instincts run fullest: valet at the door, dry-aged ribeye and filet mignon at the center of the menu, and a floor that handles large private parties and two-tops with the same level of care. The lobster tail rounds out the surf-and-turf options. Celebratory occasions are the stated purpose, and the kitchen and FOH both perform to that brief on a reliable basis.

Scottsdale's Occasion Steakhouse, Built to Deliver

Dry-Aged Ribeye

The dry-aged ribeye is the centerpiece order at Dominick's, a Scottsdale steakhouse built around occasion dining and the Mastro family's track record in the Valley.

Lobster Tail

Lobster tail draws from a tradition of surf pairing that has long anchored white-tablecloth steakhouses in the Biltmore and Old Town corridors.

Filet Mignon

The filet mignon is the reliable formal-dinner choice here, suited to the room's reputation for client entertaining and milestone celebrations.

Dominick's Steakhouse in Scottsdale operates at the top of the Valley's occasion-dining tier, where the dry-aged ribeye and the filet mignon carry the weight the price demands and the room is built around delivering on a night that matters. The dry-aged ribeye is the anchor, the kind of cut that signals the kitchen takes aging seriously and prices accordingly. The filet mignon reads across the record as the gentler, equally reliable choice for guests who want that clean, precise result rather than the assertiveness of a dry-aged program. Lobster tail rounds out the table, the classic surf-and-turf complement that keeps the room in the old-school American steakhouse tradition the Valley has always rewarded.

The service model is front-of-the-house attentive from the moment a car reaches the valet stand. For large parties, the room has demonstrated it can absorb a group of twelve midweek without the seams showing, which is not a given at high-end steakhouses that size their operations around couples and fours. That kind of large-party capacity matters for Scottsdale's corporate-entertainment market, where a client dinner at a white-tablecloth steakhouse remains the default play. The room meets the standard that expense-account and special-occasion diners expect in both execution and atmosphere.

Scottsdale's steakhouse row is genuine competition. The Mastro family's footprint across the Valley means these rooms share lineage and sensibility; Dominick's sits in that cluster. High-end pricing is consistent with the market, and there is no confusion about what the room is selling. For birthdays, anniversaries, and client nights where the evening has to land right, Dominick's has built the operating pattern to support that expectation.

The dry-aged ribeye is the signature order; the kitchen's dry-aging program is the point of differentiation at this price. For large corporate parties, call ahead rather than assuming the guest house configuration is automatically available.

The cheesesteak at Philly's Famous in Chandler is the reason this room appears on a steak list: properly built, served hot, and finished with a red sauce that the kitchen recommends adding. The Italian hoagie and roast pork sandwich give the menu range beyond the signature. The counter is run with genuine warmth, the food comes out fresh, and the prices stay in the everyday register. A no-reservations, order-at-the-counter operation that rewards the lunch crowd.

East Valley Cheesesteak Worth the Drive

Classic Cheesesteak

The namesake cheesesteak is the anchor order here, the reason the room exists in Chandler.

Italian Hoagie

The Italian hoagie represents the cold-sandwich side of the menu, stacked and built in the Philadelphia tradition.

Roast Pork Sandwich

The roast pork sandwich carries red sauce that regulars treat as essential to the build, not optional.

Chandler does not have an obvious claim to Philadelphia's sandwich tradition, but Philly's Famous makes its case straight through the food. The Classic Cheesesteak is the anchor order: the kitchen sends it out hot and fresh, and the red sauce deserves attention as an add-on rather than an afterthought. Those who have ordered the sandwich plain and then tried the sauce on the side tend not to repeat that mistake. The Italian Hoagie and Roast Pork Sandwich round out a menu that stays focused, which matters more than variety in this format.

A short, focused menu executed consistently beats a sprawling one executed unevenly, and this room leans into that trade-off. The Roast Pork Sandwich, less common in the Valley than any variation on carne asada, holds its own as a reason to make the trip from the south end of the metro. The operation runs with genuine warmth on the counter-service side. Staff interactions register as a selling point in their own right, not merely background to the food.

Families with kids land here without friction, and the casual format keeps the pace up without feeling rushed. Moderately priced for Chandler's lunch corridor, Philly's Famous sits in the strip-mall-and-suburban-arterial category the Valley does well: no scenery, no pretense, a kitchen that gets the execution right. For the stretch of the East Valley between the 101 and the 202, this is the room for a Philadelphia-style sandwich done with consistency and enough personality to stand apart from the chain alternatives filling the surrounding blocks.

The prime New York strip is the order, the lobster mac and cheese is the side to split, and the chocolate soufflé is still on the closing menu. The back-door-through-the-kitchen entrance remains. Phoenix's 1950 Steakhouse, Reborn Under New Ownership

Prime New York Strip

The New York Strip is the anchor order at this steakhouse landmark, a Prime cut that carries the room's reopened reputation under Mastro-era ownership.

Lobster Mac and Cheese

Lobster Mac and Cheese sits at the intersection of the classic steakhouse side and the updated menu direction the new ownership brought to the 1950 room.

Chocolate Soufflé

The Chocolate Soufflé requires the patience built into a full steakhouse evening at Durant's, the kind of dessert that marks the meal as an occasion.

Durant's opened in 1950 under Jack Durant and spent seven decades as one of Phoenix's most recognizable special-occasion rooms, famous for its back-door-through-the-kitchen entrance and its unapologetic old-school register. The Mastro brothers took over in late 2025 after a closure earlier that year, and the early record from the reopening suggests they read the assignment correctly: the bones of the original room are intact while the execution has been sharpened. This is Midtown Phoenix, not a resort corridor, and the room carries that civic weight.

The Prime New York Strip is the anchor, and it performs as the menu's load-bearing item should at a high-end steakhouse with this much history to answer to. The Lobster Mac and Cheese sits in the serious comfort-food register that steakhouses of this era have always done well, richness dialed up without apology. The Chocolate Soufflé closes the meal at the same formal pitch the rest of the room sets, the kind of dessert that requires patience and rewards it.

Service reads as polished and attentive across the record, and the room runs full on big Phoenix calendar nights, the PHX Open crowd testing the new operation and finding it holds. The Mastro ownership brings a track record in high-end steakhouse operations across the Valley, and the transition here reads less like a reinvention than a recalibration, the same formal occasion-dining contract honored with tighter execution.

At this price point, Durant's is competing against Steak 44 and the other Mastro properties for the same expense-account and milestone-celebration dollar. The differentiator is the building itself and seventy-five years of institutional weight in a city that loses landmarks faster than it builds them. The back-door entrance is still there.

Frequently asked

What is the best steak restaurant near me in Greater Phoenix?
It depends on your city. Steak 44 and Durant's anchor the Phoenix side (Biltmore and Midtown, respectively). Dominick's and Ocean 44 are the Scottsdale flagships. Arrowhead Grill covers Glendale at a lower price point. Every restaurant on this list was selected based on the Insider Score, which reflects the review record, and no restaurant pays to be listed.
What is the difference between Steak 44, Dominick's, and Ocean 44?
All three have roots in the Mastro family's hospitality program. Steak 44 is in Phoenix near the Biltmore and focuses on dry-aged beef. Dominick's is the Scottsdale fine-dining flagship with the most formal FOH operation. Ocean 44, also in Scottsdale, leads with seafood but keeps a dry-aged ribeye and surf-and-turf on the menu. All three are price-tier 4 and best suited to special occasions.
When is the best time to visit steakhouses in the Valley?
The Valley's restaurant season runs October through April, when cooler temperatures bring snowbirds and peak reservation demand. If you are targeting a high-demand room like Steak 44 or Dominick's during that window, book well in advance. Summer months see lighter reservation competition, though hours at some rooms can shift.
Does Durant's still have the back-door entrance?
Yes. Durant's reopened in December 2025 under new ownership (the Mastro brothers), and the signature back-door-through-the-kitchen entrance that made the Midtown Phoenix room a local landmark was preserved in the renovation. The prime New York strip and the updated room were both well-received in early accounts.
